An information systems integration company headquartered in Bahrain, NGN International, a Systems Integration company headquartered in Bahrain, organized a Cyber Security Workshop at the Capital Club in Manama, in collaboration with Group-IB, an international cybersecurity company. The two companies recently signed a partnership agreement.

The event was held in the presence of senior Information security professionals from a number of leading Bahraini banks.

CEO of NGN, Yacoub Al Awadhi, stated that the workshop is in line with the directives of the vernment, the Economic Development Board and evernment to provide maximum protection against cyber security attacks against various vernment and private institutions. “This is especially important with the accelerating pace of Bahrain’s digital transformation, and moves towards cloud computing,” explained Mr. Al Awadhi.

Al-Awadhi discussed that Group-IB’s products and services provided by NGN in the Gulf region are state-of-the-art cyber security tools & solutions relying on unique cyber intelligence and proactive threat hunting tailored to all Financial institutes in Bahrain and the rest of the GCC. “We offer these advanced solutions at a time when we are witnessing a surge in hacker attacks against vital institutions such as vernment, Banking, Energy, and Healthcare,” he said.

“The presence of more than 400 financial institutions in Bahrain makes it a major target for many hackers around the world,” he added.

The cooperation between NGN and Group-IB extends to providing quality training for Bahrainis in cybersecurity and closing the skills gap in the related market in the region. “There are over 900 Bahraini graduates in ICT courses and figures indicate that there are about one million vacancies in cyber security around the world,” he stated. Group-IB specialists have trained law enforcement agencies, corporate security teams, and universities around the world, as well as experts within Group-IB’s official partners, Interpol and Europol. The new programme becomes available for Bahraini companies thanks to the NGN-Group-IB partnership.

Vice President of International Business at Group-IB Nicholas Palmer highlighted that the cooperation with NGN will play an important role in the development of Bahrain’s national economy. “It shall further develop its cyber security expertise, since the Kingdom is key Middle East’s financial powerhouse. Its rapid economic development and commitment to improving investment climate did not unnoticed not only for the world’s financial industry leaders but also notorious hacker groups eager to have their finger in the pie. This step will help to attract more investments to the Kingdom and the region by international institutions including banks and airlines, strengthening Bahrain’s position as a leading ICT hub in the region,” explained Mr. Palmer.

“This cooperation with NGN will help protect against potential cyber breaches and protect the internal networks of vernment entities, banks and private companies. Furthermore, we will work through our partnership in training to fill the shortage of cyber security staff in Bahrain and the region,” he added.

According to Group-IB Threat Intelligence team, the number of compromised cards issued by Bahraini banks increased in 2018 by 50 times The amount of financial fraud and targeted attacks on banks, vernment organizations and private companies is likely to continue growing.

“Major vernment, private institutions, and banks need to rethink their approach to protection from cyber threats. Cyber protection should not only be defensive but make use of early warning systems and the elimination of threats in the bud. It is time to turn the tables, stop being victims and start hunting for cyber threats ” concluded Mr. Palmer.
