Cybersecurity experts affirmed that boosting Bahraini companies' and institutions' awareness of cybersecurity ensures the sustainability of their work and protection from cyberattacks that may lead to the loss or theft of their data.

They noted that this awareness contributes to the integration of work in various productive and service sectors, including energy and transportation, in a manner that serves the national economy as a whole and enhances the sustainability of its growth.

This was discussed at a webinar on the expansion of organizations' external attack surface titled “The external attack surface is bigger than you think” held by NGN International, a full-service systems integrator and Managed Security Service Provider based in Bahrain, as part of the “NGN Majlis”‘ efforts to improve awareness of cyber security among Bahrain’s institutions and individuals.

During the webinar, Mr. Mohamed Sanad, Senior Manager of Information Technology at SNIC Insurance, said that an external attack surface is all of an organization’s IT assets and those closely related to the organization, as seen by attackers looking in from the outside. He explained that managing that attack surface is the only way to ensure you stay secure, while organizations often define “attack surface” too narrowly, attackers do not make that mistake, as they simply want access to your data, applications, and networks whether on-premises or in cloud, subsidiary, third-party or partner environments. He said that the best way to protect your organization, therefore, is to see, understand and manage all of the ways an attacker might get into your organization.

For his part, Mr. Shah Alam, Cyber Security Manager at ALUBAF Arab International Bank explained why traditional perimeter security solutions fall short, the vulnerability Scanners and Vulnerability assessments Vs Attack Surface Management, in addition to the Latest security solutions to manage and protect the external attack surface.

Mr. Sven Haers, Presales Manager -AssetZero Business Unit at Group-IB, mentioned examples of international breaches and leaks, and Hi-Tech Crime Trends in 2020/2021. He also reviewed the latest security solutions to manage and protect the external attack surface and discussed the validation of assets, alerts, and risk scores in addition to remediation and reassessment.
