Information technology expert Yaqoob Al Awadhi stressed the importance of internet users being careful when posting personal and family photos and information on social media and considering the measures recommended by cybersecurity experts when using the Internet.

He noted the massive increase of cybercrimes globally by hackers seeking to steal data and information, or by companies that collect data for use in advertising, commercial goals, or adversely affect people’s behavior and destabilize societies.

Al Awadhi said that the incident of hacking accounts of celebrities and business tycoons on Twitter in the United States recently, and the financial fraud that followed, in addition to the scandal of Cambridge Analytica of keeping data illegally of more than 87 million users of the site “Facebook”, and many other similar piracy incidents, stresses the importance of protecting ourselves in this digital era.

“Internet users still can’t fully protect their privacy on the Internet no matter what they do, as only governments can play this role by banning data collection and granting citizens the rights to prevent obtaining their data without explicit permission, and delete the data already collected.” Al Awadhi said.

“We praise the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to maintain the privacy of citizens, residents, and companies, by its continuous work to develop legislation and laws that forbid attacks on the privacy of users and prevent service providers from collecting personal data for advertisement purposes. We must also mention the prominent role played by the Department of Cybercrimes at the Ministry of Interior in this regard.” Al Awadhi added.

Al Awadhi also noted that NGN International is always working to support the government’s efforts in achieving cybersecurity, and said that the company had provided many solutions in the field of cybersecurity to confront the problems of hacking at the level of individuals and institutions.

He explained that such solutions include “VDI” service that provides the ability to create virtual private desktops on protected servers, “VPN” service to transmit encrypted information via public networks, and “EMM” to protect and manage employees’ mobile devices when connecting to corporate infrastructure. This is in addition to the “SOC” center, which provides 24/7 protection from cyber-attacks and threats, Brand protection service, DMARC email protection service, and “Red Teaming” that stimulate Security awareness training to raise employees’ professionalism and acquire qualifications for identifying cyberattacks against the organization.

“Due to the widespread of the Internet, smart devices, and mobile devices, it has become necessary in our time to pay attention to cybersecurity and how to protect ourselves in the digital space from home to work and at the state level as a whole.” Al Awadhi said, concluding his statement.
