Using a CamScanner Android app? Warning, a malware found!

03.09.2019

The users of a free version of CamScanner app, an Android Phone PDF creator with over 100 million downloads on ogle Play Store, have been reporting suspicious behaviour of the app and leaving negative reviews within the last few months. As a recent Kaspersky report revealed, indeed, the app contains a hidden Trojan Dropper module. This module enables attackers to remotely hijack the device to use it anyway they like, from stealing data stored on it to charging paid subscriptions and stealing money from their mobile account.

What to do?

  1. Play Store already removed the app, and they say the app developers t rid of the malicious code with the latest update. However, just to be safe, uninstall the CamScanner app from your Android device.
  2. Your Android devices should be protected by a od antivirus, which can detect and block malicious activities before they can harm. If you don’t have one – install it now.
  3. Before the installation process, verify app permissions. Don’t grant those which are not relevant for the app.
  4. Finally, always through the reviews. Android community is eager to share od and bad, so if any suspicious behaviour has been detected, you will most probably notice it in the reviews.
